President's Message

Next meeting: May 10, 2008.
Location: Jim Beaman's shop, 4795 So. Deaver Rd., Tucson, Az.  85735

How do you get there ?? Going west on Ajo, past Kenny Rd about 1 mile, turn right on Tucson Estates Parkway and the immediately left on Oklahoma. Going West to Deaver, turn left and the shop will be on your left.

We will be having an auction, so bring all that you don't want and we will try to get rid of it for you so that you have room for more.  Proceeds to go to the club unless otherwise noted.

Hope you all enjoyed the April meeting with Todd and Hayley. I sure learned a lot. I really enjoyed the info from Todd. I sure look at my wood collection a lot differently now. Hayley was very inspirational, too. I know that a lot of us will be trying colors and burning now that we have a clue !!

Well, the Pima county fair is over. I want to thank all those who participated in occupying the booth. Jan and I were out there on Saturday and Sunday. I made and gave away at least 24 Christmas ornaments and 30 to 40 tops. Had a great time talking to people coming by. Dennis Minikle handed out fliers and consulted with the folks who showed an interest. I hope that you all had as good a time as we did.

I would like to have input from those who participated as to whether we should do this again, but without the selling part and just do demonstrations. Please e-mail your comments to me so I can get a consensus of your opinions.

Summer is just around the corner and time for hands on mentoring. I hope to have lathes galore at the Raytheon club house and time for all of you who are in need of help to get it. We will be featuring sharpening, safety, aggressive and finesse turning. Time for us all to take a step up in our turning and have fun.

Hope to see you all at the next meeting.  Cooler will be on.  Lathes and grinder available for hands on work.  Come learn and have fun..

 As the wood turns,
Jim

Plan on what pieces you want to bring to the next meeting for the “instant gallery.” It’s a perfect time to share your work with other club members. And if you find something of interest in the instant gallery, take the time to ask the maker about it—maybe about how it was constructed, techniques used, or finishing. It’s time to share our thoughts with others.

Anyone with donations—e.g., tools, machinery, or library books or videos—see any one of the committee members.
